Archives and Personal Papers

Archives is a department of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens formally established in 1994. Since then, it has developed into an active and innovative research center encompassing a wide range of scholarly fields, from the history of American archaeology in Greece to Modern Greek history and literature.

In fulfillment of the School's overall mission to advance the study of the Greek world from antiquity to the present, the Archives collects, preserves, and provides public access to a remarkable set of materials which include: records that document the School’s operation in Greece as an educational and research institution, personal papers of American archaeologists who have worked in Greece, a teaching collection of archaeological objects, photographic collections, and a rich collection of personal papers of many leading Greek historical and cultural figures of the 19th and 20th centuries.
